The Urgency of Missions: There and Now
Mar 31, 2025
Every generation of believers has faced its own moment of decision: Will we take the gospel where it has not yet gone?
The first followers of Jesus faced danger, persecution, and the unknown. Missionaries throughout history have crossed oceans, trekked through deserts, and learned new languages so that every tribe and nation might hear the good news. Their courage has changed the course of history.
Today, the baton is in our hands—and the need remains urgent.
Billions Still Waiting
Right now, 3.42 billion people—over 42% of the world’s population—live in unreached people groups (Joshua Project, October 4, 2023; Operation World, 2023; Global Frontier Missions, 2023). These communities have little or no access to the gospel. There is no local church to invite them in, no nearby believer to share the hope of Jesus, and often no Scripture in their language.
If nothing changes, entire generations could live and die without ever hearing the name of Jesus in a way they can understand.
Why This Generation Is Different
We are living in a time of unprecedented opportunity:
Technology can deliver Scripture and teaching to remote areas instantly.
Global migration has brought unreached peoples into our neighborhoods.
Transportation and communication allow for faster collaboration across continents than ever before.
These tools mean we can move the gospel into unreached areas at a speed unimaginable to past generations—if we choose to act now.
Empowering the Fastest Path Forward
At There and Now, we believe the most effective way to meet this urgency is to empower local, national believers and church planters to reach their own people and neighboring cultures.
They already live close to the unreached. They speak the language. They understand the culture. With training, resources, and support, they can start making disciples immediately—planting churches that will multiply for generations.
This is not about replacing traditional missionaries—it’s about multiplying the workforce and accelerating the mission.
Why We Can’t Wait
Every day, people step into eternity without ever having had the chance to hear about Jesus. We can’t be content to reach only the places where the gospel is already known. The billions still waiting deserve the same opportunity we’ve had—to hear, respond, and follow Him.
The Invitation
The Great Commission is not just a call—it’s a time-sensitive mission. We have the resources, the people, and the opportunity to finish the task in our lifetime. Let’s act now, together.
Join us in empowering local, national believers and church planters to reach the unreached—faster, there and now.
